Google announced on September 27 (Japanese time) that it has released ChromeOS 117 on the stable channel. Like “Google Chrome 117”, a new design was developed based on “Material You” (Google Material 3).
ChromeOS uses 117 distinct colors that match your wallpaper, and you can customize the color palette using the Personalization app. Moreover, the quick settings located at the bottom right of the desktop have also been updated accordingly. The settings view that appears when you tap the watch is larger and has a more Android-like design.
The date is displayed to the left of the watch, and the calendar appears when clicked. Here you will see upcoming meetings and a button to join them. It also supports events that span multiple days.
The notification panel, which was integrated into Quick Settings, now stands on its own as a message center. When there are new notifications, the number will be displayed to the left of the date, so by clicking on it you can check all notifications from the operating system and applications at once.
Also, since ChromeOS is not well known to have clipboard history functionality, we’ve added a popup to promote the functionality when you copy an item to the clipboard for the first time. You can now trace the history using the Paste from Clipboard command from the right-click menu in the text box.
By the way, the ChromeOS clipboard history can be accessed by pressing keys[Search]+[V].
Additionally, the following improvements are included:
- Improved Vietnamese input (Telex/VNI)
- When you search for OS version, battery, RAM, storage, and CPU status in the launcher, this information will now be previewed in the search results.
- Improved camera and microphone privacy controls (later this year). Disable camera and microphone with one tap
- Camera and microphone privacy indicators
- The emoji picker now includes GIFs
- Now you can listen to audio from Android apps and the web at the same time
- The built-in camera app supports time-lapse recording
- Color correction to make screen colors easier to see.Built in settings
- Adaptive charging user interface. Once the battery is charged to 80%, the machine learning model predicts when the user will disconnect the battery and adjusts the amount of charge to maximize battery life.
ChromeOS updates will be rolled out sequentially starting in some environments. Once the update is available, you can apply it from the About ChromeOS screen in the Settings screen. Many vulnerabilities have been fixed, so we recommend updating as soon as possible.
