In Outrun you don’t have to be faster than the beast, just faster than the others.

Outrun is a racing game in which you have to escape from a monster. At first one of the four is chosen and the corresponding game board is placed. Each monster affects the mechanics of the game a little. There is a one to three part path of the map next to it. Each shows nine action fields in which the fugitive tokens are moved forward. Depending on the selected number, the game will be longer or shorter until the goal is reached.
Everyone chooses a shape, gets the appropriate combination of nine different token cards and a target card in their hand and places a token on the racetrack and monster board.
Now the game can be started by turning over the top card from the deck of the track in the middle of the table. This defines a series of symbols that must all be reproduced from your hand cards as quickly as possible. Once this is done, the destination card is placed in the middle, resulting in a ranking from the slowest to the fastest person.
After the correct order of the cards has been verified by everyone, the tokens of the fleeing people are now arranged on the monster board according to their position. The slowest person is on the far left, alarmingly close to the monster. The number of steps reached determines the number of steps on the track panel. The slowest person and those who placed the symbols incorrectly are not allowed to move.
At the beginning of the next round, the card is played again and the individual stages are repeated. The first to reach the end of the track escaped from the monster and won the game.
Since this is not a challenge in itself, there are also effect cards. This changes, among other things, the required order of the icons. For example, two symbols should always be swapped, the order of the symbols should be reversed, or the symbols should be placed first in the even position and then those in the odd position. These cards can also be used to steal or exchange effect cards or to boost steps on a path.
