It’s time again for that magical night at Hogwarts! Each house tries to reach the Great Hall first, alone or as a team. It’s best not to get caught by other homes or the caretaker. Who would believe a Bertie Botts cereal bag with all its flavours?

Draw cards, plan moves, and capture others

“DOG – Harry Potter” is a special edition of the classic “DOG” game. Similar to the well-known classic game “Mensch-Angere-Dich-nicht®”, in “DOG”, a certain number of your characters must move from the starting field via a circular route to the target field.

Movements are controlled by action cards, which are drawn with different numbers at the beginning of each round. After a card is passed or replaced, all remaining cards must then be played.

This coercion also applies in situations that are detrimental to one’s goals. If no card can be played correctly, you may draw and discard (two or three people) or your entire turn ends by discarding all cards (four people).

Since only one person is allowed to stand on the field, there is also the classic ‘throw’. This returns the other character to their residence. This may not only happen in your starting field.

If all the houses are against each other from one to three people, then if there are four parties at the table, the houses opposite each other form a team. Cards are then exchanged between teams at the beginning of each round.

If a house in a game of four has already managed to gather all its characters in the Great Hall, then from this point onwards (even in the same turn) friendly house characters can be drawn.

The house (of two or three people) that is first to collect three of its four characters at the end wins the game. In a team game, three characters from both teams must reach the goal. Then this team wins.

The “Harry Potter” variant also has another character: the caretaker. This enters play once the first house is able to move a character to the Great Hall. From now on, each person in turn can move the caretaker counterclockwise to pick up other pieces. They must then be returned to their own dormitories.
