Chess meets Stigio
“Volto” is a game for two players that is played on a game board divided into 5×5 squares. At the start of the game, the two sides individually fill in the first two rows with their own shapes. To the other person, they all look identical; From their point of view, however, they differ in terms of movement options and whether they can overpower other pieces. This is done by moving to a square occupied by the opponent and removing the figure there.
Alternately, one number is moved at a time. The nobles can move one square perpendicularly, the councilors diagonally, the soldier only forward, but as often as they like, and the candidate one square perpendicularly or diagonally. Ladies-in-waiting can also be moved to any adjacent square, but other pieces cannot be captured. However, if a lady-in-waiting is hit, the offender is also removed.
Both parties want to move their candidate to the opposite row, beat the rival candidate, or, alternatively, achieve the defeat of their two ladies-in-waiting by the opponent. Whoever succeeds in one of these options first wins.
