Tablua Games has provided us with “Sons of Faeriel” for review.
This has no bearing on our rating!

This is what the game is about

In Sons of Faeriell, the playgroup takes on the role of nature-loving tribes in fighting looming corruption. In this way, it is to satisfy the spirits of nature, build settlements, improve your characters and complete quests in order to eventually emerge as a victorious tribe. The goal is to get five out of 20 possible achievements or help the Corrupt win.

At the heart of every turn are the three stages of action, but unlike other games, not everyone goes through these stages in the same order. When it’s someone’s turn, they activate a phase by flipping over an active phase tile. This person then goes through all the relevant steps before it’s the next person’s turn. This allows people to strategically plan the order of their work stages and the steps involved so that they can get the most out of their roles. In the three stages of movement, among other things, new settlements are built, resources are collected, game pieces are moved, or they interact with spaces on the game board. It is especially important to combine the stages of work and the steps they contain in a meaningful way. For example, settlements are a finite resource and cannot be built once there are no more settlements on your board. If they are put without a plan, in the worst case two of the 20 possible successes cannot be achieved.

Since so many different actions bring about the successes needed for victory, it is especially important to pay attention to these synergies and have a plan in place. In Sons of Faeriell it is always possible to automatically change your plans due to many different successes, but it can be important to keep track of what you want to do at all times.

In addition to the other people, the already mentioned corruption is of course the biggest opponent. Due to various events or actions of the game group, the bar for corruption increases, which means that more and more negative effects appear on the field over time. In addition to the global corruption bar, each tribe has its own corruption accumulation. If the tribe manages to maintain its purity or cleanse itself of its corruption, it achieves one of the necessary successes (all people start with zero corruption and thus succeed directly, and lose immediately as soon as corruption accumulates). If a person collects too much corruption, he surrenders to it and thus changes his goal of the game. Instead of collecting achievements, it must now actively ensure that global corruption reaches the end of the bar. If a person fulfills one of the objective requirements, the endgame is triggered, at the end of which a victorious tribe appears. For or against corruption.

In order to offer variety, game groups can count on many special game modes or game scenarios. So there can be a new character serving corruption from the start, but the powers can also be used for good. Another form introduces a non-playable character who wants to cause trouble for the playgroup on the field. However, if the game group prefers to play cooperatively rather than compete, a cooperative mode can also be played in which all people compete against the game together.
