The world of hot drinks seems to have had a bigger impact on the board game hobby lately. Suddenly, playgroups are working on tea and coffee plantations or even opening their own café empire. But with all these games, the theme remains only two-dimensional. “Espresso Doppio” changes that by allowing playgroups to drink espresso directly from the playing material. Let’s take a closer look at what this is all about!

This is what the game is about
In “Espresso Doppio” two people can compete against each other in a fast paced puzzle game. By moving the different ingredients, the goal cards must be met in order to collect victory points in the form of coffee beans. A notable feature is that these “ingredients” are actual espresso cups, including saucers and spoons, from which espresso can actually be drunk during the game (or right after).
The rules are explained quickly. Both characters possess a deck of eight destination cards. These goal cards are randomly distributed, so no one initially knows what goal cards are in which deck. Then three goal cards are revealed and the game can begin. Up to three actions can be performed in one turn. The action consists of either movement or exchange of components on the playmat. The goal is to arrange the components in such a way that they meet one or more conditions on the goal cards in order to score them. Destination cards can also be registered multiple times if the requirements are met multiple times.
Once one person has scored all 8 destination cards, the first round ends. In the second round, the playing field remains unchanged, but the combinations of cards are switched. If another person finishes their entire deck of cards, the game ends and the person with the most coffee beans wins.
