Equus acinus acinus. please what? Yes, exactly – this is the Latin translation of donkey. It’s important to know, because we’re all in “Double Donkey” ass. But who is the biggest donkey in the group? We want to discover this innovation at the SPIEL ’22 entertainment trade fair.
Piatnik kindly provided us with “Double Donkey” for review.
This has no effect on our rating!
Do dogs bite the last or kick donkeys?
We already know after the first sentence – “You’re all asses.” But the biggest ass among us won’t be revealed until the next few rounds. The object of the game is to be the first person to get rid of all cards. At the beginning of the game, each person receives ten donkey cards, three of which are taken into hand, and the remaining seven cards make up your personal draw pile. Each donkey card shows either two donkeys in different color combinations, eg purple/orange, blue/green, etc., or an angry donkey with two colored dice appears on the card. There are six colors in total.
Each round consists of two phases – the dice phase and the card phase. First, let’s look at the first stage.
Whoever has a turn first rolls all six dice of different colours. Then one of the dice must be selected and set aside. Then it is played in turn: the next person rolls the remaining 5 dice, chooses another one and passes the remaining dice to the next person. This continues in turn until all the dice have been selected.
And now it’s about donkeys! In the second phase, each person chooses one to three cards from their hand at the same time. Cards are chosen from which everyone thinks the two donkeys on the card reach the lowest possible numerical value. The hand cards are placed face down in front of each person and then turned over at the same time. Is there an angry donkey? Then the dice with the matching color must be turned over so that the number on the underside can be seen.
And let’s start with the evaluation. The numbers of the two visible reds are now added together. For example, if the “blue/orange” card is played, the numbers on the blue and orange dice are added together. For angry donkeys, the number on the dice that corresponds to the color of the donkey on the card is recorded. The Big Ass card is placed in front of the person who has reached the highest value with one of the cards played. In the event of a tie, the person with the fewest cards in the personal draw pile gets the donkey.
At the end of the round, all cards are discarded and everyone is drawn so that there are three cards on hand again. However, whoever was the biggest donkey in the round must draw from the public draw pile and not – like everyone else – from the personal draw pile. Stupid gone.
The game ends when the first person has no more cards in their hand or any cards in their personal draw pile. This person won!
