BREAKING: Starfield and Redfall postponed to 2023

Bethesda announced today, Thursday, May 12, 2022 that one of the most anticipated games of the year won’t be released in 2022. You’ll be scared – we’re talking about Starfield. So far, the giant space RPG should launch in November, but you won’t be able to keep that date. Redfall, which was first introduced to the public at E3 2021, will also be delayed. Redfall is set to be a vampire-themed open-world co-op shooter.

Both Starfield and Redfall will not be released this year, but both will be in the first half of 2023, Bethesda reports in the current statement. The two teams behind the games, Arkane Austin in the case of Redfall and Bethesda Game Studios in the case of Starfield, have incredibly high ambitions in their projects. With the transformation, you want to make sure that these expectations can be met and that players get the best possible and improved version of Starfield and Redfall at launch.

Insights playing soon

Thanks to every community member for looking forward to both titles. The energy generated is a huge part of what inspires employees every day and keeps them excited about what they are currently creating. Soon they will want to offer the first more detailed insights into the gameplay of both games, but an exact date has yet to be set.

This is exactly what you should give credit admins at this point, because not everyone can care about creating “Cyberpunk 2.0” in terms of connecting with the waiting community. Even more frustrating for all parties involved is the constant naming of exact dates for new transitions and the repeated failure to keep them.

It’s entirely possible, if we want to be hopeful together, that we’ll see new material as early as June 12th. Today, Xbox and Bethesda jointly announced the Xbox & Bethesda Game Show, which will share updates about current franchises as well as news of upcoming games.

The linked live stream will be broadcast on different platforms, but of course it can also be watched on Twitch and YouTube. All additional information can be found here:

Microsoft effect?

In September 2020, it became known that the world-famous developer and publisher Bethesda, including all studios associated with it, would be controlled by Microsoft. As a result, the rights to popular franchises such as The Elder Scrolls and Doom, as well as Starfield, became Microsoft’s responsibility as well.

It is unclear to what extent the delay is related to the acquisition by Microsoft. However, one could hypothesise that one is giving oneself extra time here so as to be able to publish a better final product. Under the old administration, this shift may or may not have been possible.
