Groß Kreutz (dpa/bb) – Autonomous tractors or sensors that scan the ground – Brandenburg wants to focus more on green farming in the future. “Bioeconomics is nothing new, it has always been part of agricultural value creation,” Agriculture Minister Axel Vogel (Greens) said Monday. The important thing now is to focus on moving from theory to practice.
One example is the Leibniz Innovation Center in Gross Kreuz (Potsdam Mittelmark District). During operation, the available climate-friendly options are shown here. At the same time, there must be solutions that make it possible to survive as a farmer, said Barbara Storm, scientific director of the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomics. The first innovations are, for example, a mini tractor that can drive electrically and autonomously or a trailer with which the soil can be scanned for nitrogen or PH content. This saves carbon dioxide and the fertilizer is used only in a targeted manner.
According to Science Minister Manga Scholl (SPD), the farm is unique in Germany. “This is where it all comes together and it’s what we need when we talk about Green Economy 2.0,” Schul said during a visit to the farm on Monday. But some innovations are still a long way off – according to the research team, the stand-alone tractor is still too expensive for individual farmers.
