Green City Council member Klaus Hurl Stroller announced that Bayreuth Technology and Energy Cooperative, or BayTEG for short, was officially incorporated on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 8:19 p.m.
27 people signed the statute as founding members during the inaugural meeting, thus “setting another milestone on the way to a climate-friendly city of Bayreuth,” the announcement said.
Founding of the Bayreuth Energy Cooperative
Lord Mayor Thomas Ebersberger attended the meeting and stressed the importance of private initiatives to protect the climate in the city. Ebersberger promised not only financial support to the city, which has already been determined, but also support for public utilities. Establishing an energy cooperative was also an issue at the City of Bayreuth Environmental Committee.
In the new cooperative, energy will be produced “permanently, regionally, cheaply and cleanly,” lauded Max Riedel, founding consultant at the Bavarian Association of Cooperatives. Dr. Stefan Seifert and Geza Thomas were elected president and vice president, respectively, and Peter Wehlfart and Dr. Reinhard Kettner as additional members. Bastian Raethel is the CEO and Tanya Butzler is his deputy. Ulf Boderius is also a board member.
