Bank of America customers reported a problem accessing their bank accounts on Wednesday, but the bank said the apparent glitch has largely been fixed.
Reports of an issue at Bank of America spiked around 12:45 PM ET on the website Downdetector, which collects data on outages.
Many customers complained about not being able to see their account balances. Some who were able to access their accounts were astonished to see zero balances.
In a statement to CNN, Bank of America acknowledged that “some customers are having trouble accessing their account and balance information today.”
“These issues are being addressed and have been largely resolved,” Bank of America said. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Bank of America declined to determine the cause of the problem. It is not clear when all systems will fully return to normal.
Several CNN employees with accounts at Bank of America were unable to log into their accounts online Wednesday afternoon. A message displayed to a Bank of America customer showed that the current balance amount for one or several accounts “may be temporarily unavailable.”
“Five accounts showing zero balance, over 20k,” one Bank of America customer wrote on Downdetector.
Another said that he cannot log in, but his wife can and her accounts do not show any balance.
“Shows my debt well,” another user said.
