The lineup of gaming laptops in ASUS’s Republic of Gamers series is still expanding, after all, several new products were introduced at CES 2023. After the 16-inch Zephyrus M16 and ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 at the end of March, PCs follow. The 17-inch ASUS ROG Strix G17 and ROG Strix SCAR 17 gaming laptops, which are based on current AMD processors up to the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX.
ASUS ROG Strix G17 details
ASUS ROG Strix G17 (G713) gives you choice again. On the one hand, in terms of components, since the gaming laptop is presented in the top segment with an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, which together should guarantee excellent gaming performance.
On the one hand, this also applies to the screen – we already know this from ASUS. With a 17.3-inch display, you can choose between an ultra-fast 240Hz NanoEdge WQHD (2560 x 1440) display with a 3ms response time or a Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display with 144Hz.
They both cover 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, and NVIDIA G-Sync Master and Advanced Optimus. Dolby Vision HDR is also offered.
In terms of RAM, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 relies on DDR5-4800 RAM in two SO-DIMMs, which can be expanded up to 32GB. Depending on the version, either 8GB or 16GB pre-installed works fine — so you should definitely be 16 if you really want to play with the device. There is also 1TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD storage.
Other than that, all kinds of laptops are well-equipped and support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, for example, offer Dolby Atmos speakers including Smart Amp technology, and much more. The 90Wh battery promises good runtime, and it charges using the included 280W power adapter. At 2.80kg, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 isn’t really lightweight.
ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 for more details
Sitting above it is the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (G733), which pairs up an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor on top with the current high-end graphics unit in the form of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090.
The 17-inch device offers a 240Hz QHD panel with fast refresh rates, response times of just 3ms, and 300nits of brightness. Thanks to the latest cooling technology and liquid metal cooling on the CPU and GPU, your gaming laptop always stays ultra-quiet.
Additionally, there is a choice of 16GB or 32GB of RAM ex Works, which can be expanded up to 64GB. It is also available as DDR5-4800 RAM. In terms of a PCIe 4.0 SSD, one or even a terabyte of storage is available.
Otherwise, the SCAR 17 Notebook PC shares pretty much the same specs as the Strix G17, but charges its 90W battery faster thanks to the 330W AC adapter. The massive gaming notebook weighs 3.00 kg.
