Approval of 5G antennas just got easier again – TOP ONLINE

Cantons can again agree to expand traditional 5G mobile antennas in a simplified way. The Conference of Building, Planning and Environmental Directors (BPUK) is responding to an amendment to the Protection from Non-Ionizing Radiation (ONIR) Act by the Federal Council.

This has been in effect since January 1st. The conference announced on Monday that the South Korean House of Representatives subsequently amended its recommendations and approved them by the full House. The new recommendations of the conference will enter into force on 1 April.

Accordingly, cantons can approve maintenance work on the mobile network in a simplified manner. The second option allows simplified expansion of mobile networks. The procedural recommendation for the approved maximum transmit power does not apply. According to BPUK, this is regulated in the regulation. Radiation protection remains guaranteed.

Specifically, it concerns the so-called correction factor for adaptive antennas, the radiation of which is overestimated. Adaptive antennas can focus radiation on where the mobile phone is. Thus, radiation exposure is, on average, lower than with conventional antennas.

The BPUK is asking the Federal Council to subject ONIR to a regular review. The focus should not be on technology, but on protecting the population. This is already the case with noise protection, for example. The conference complained that the current technology-based regulations are also complicated in terms of the approval process.
