GIGABYTE relies on a black plastic case with a smooth matte surface for the compact gaming laptop. The device does not offer any extravagant design elements. The narrow bezel gives the computer some elegance. A Thunderbolt 4 slot opens up expansion options in the form of an external GPU or docking solution. The latter may be necessary since the notebook computer has only one USB-A port.
The combination of a Core i7-12700H CPU, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU and 16GB of RAM (DDR4-4800, dual channel mode) prepares the computer for all areas of application that require high performance – video editing and rendering and games. The ultra-fast PCIe 4 SSD (1 TB) provides the necessary storage space and ensures short loading times. The laptop makes room for another PCIe 4 SSD.
The built-in hardware allows for QHD gaming at extremely high settings. Higher resolutions can also be used if a corresponding monitor is connected – up to three additional displays can be connected (1x HDMI 2.1, 2x Display Ports via USB-C). The XE5’s QHD matte screen delivers stable viewing angles, short response times, solid color representation, and good color space coverage.
It’s a shame: the computer shows a lot of power consumption at idle and under low load. This problem does not exist in battery mode: the computer achieves practical battery runtimes of about 6 to 7 hours – very good values.
In addition to the current configuration with the RTX 3070 Ti, the Aorus 15 model is also available with a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU (Aorus 15 YE5) and a GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU (Aorus 15 KE5).
