The eSIM Transfer Tool for Android devices that Google first announced at MWC 2023 is now reportedly available on Android smartphones from some carriers in the US.

Robot police According to information shared by users who tried to set up the Galaxy S24 Ultra, they were offered the option to scan the QR code and transfer their eSIM from another device they had previously used. We also reported that a similar option appeared on the Pixel 8 Pro and worked both ways with Galaxy devices.

When this feature was announced, it wasn't clear when it would be available, and although images of it in action were shared around October of last year, it wasn't widely available. Initially, it was thought that it would only be available on Pixel smartphones, but this report reveals that it can also be used on devices other than Pixel devices, suggesting that it will be applicable to a wider range of devices in the future.

Note that although Samsung added an eSIM transfer tool in One UI 5.1, it only supports transfer between Galaxy devices. With the update to One UI 6.1, this transfer tool may now be able to transfer to more than just Galaxy devices.

However, this feature currently appears to only work with T-Mobile's eSIM profiles in the US. Google said T-Mobile would be one of the first carriers when it was announced last year, so more carriers are expected to become compatible in the future.

Since it will be a feature built into the Android operating system, it is expected that the eSIM transfer feature will be available outside the US and on Android smartphones (possibly Android 14 and above), but we don't know that at the moment.

In Japan, most carriers and MVNOs charge fees when you change models with an eSIM, so I'm also worried about what will happen if I switch.

However, it is currently only gradually becoming available to some limited carriers and devices in the US, so we look forward to future developments.
