Today, on August 10, 2023, at 7:00 pm, the open beta of Palia has finally started, which means that you can also finally set foot in this colorful MMORPG. I’ve been busy the past few days testing the title for you in closed beta. Today I will tell you what Palia is about and for whom the game is well suited.
You can take a look at the game in the following trailer:
New life as a stranger
If you’re looking for a focused action, you’ll look in vain to the Palia. But as we all know, you don’t always need them for a game to work, like ours Top 10 relaxing video games prove.
When you enter the mysterious fantasy world of Palia, it quickly becomes apparent that you are considered an odd player here, because in fact people no longer belong in this colorful area. People mysteriously disappeared many years ago. However, you will be greeted cordially and given a tent and some tools you need to survive.
Then it works on the principle of Animal Crossing: you make friends with NPCs and neighboring players and build the home of your dreams.
The principle of the game known as new tricks
In addition to the well-known tasks that we already know from games like Animal Crossing (catching insects, collecting flowers and other resources, mining, catching fish, stealing lumberjack, etc.), we also have the task of unraveling the mysteries surrounding Palia. There are some abandoned ruins here which contain many mysteries which we will get to with an archaeologist and her assistant.
The small puzzles and interesting locations that we lead to through this series of quests offer a nice change from the usual everyday life in Palia and ensure that the game doesn’t get boring too quickly.
In addition, we learn more and more from various NPCs about why people have actually gone missing. Conversations with the residents bring the game to life and ensure that living in Balia doesn’t get too lonely.
A relaxing game combined with a lot of creativity
When we’re not exploring the secrets of Palia or talking to NPCs, we spend most of our time creating and expanding our new home.
The tent becomes a very small house. Later you can add more rooms and create an entire villa. You build your own furniture, and gradually you will receive new building plans. So you can design your home in a great creative way and unleash your creativity.
However, in order to be able to fill your home with absolutely chic furniture and decorative items, you always have to collect resources. Later in the game, simple stones or simple wood are no longer enough. So you have to produce sawmills, furnaces and much more in order to be able to produce more materials from the resources you have farmed.
Equally important is hunting and fishing. From what you kill, you can not only prepare different meals that increase your gain of experience points, but also sell them at high prices. It is also possible to grow vegetables and other resources in your garden.
Of course, the gameplay can get very monotonous quickly, and it’s definitely not for everyone, and you’ll often have to be patient because many of the crafting takes place in real time. Building a house, for example, takes a full 8 hours and producing the materials can sometimes take up to 15 minutes, depending on the material. Animal Crossing fans and fans of similar titles will definitely love Palia.
Optics, sound and performance
I really like the look of Balea. It looks a little more Animal Crossing, for example, but still offers a nice feel-good look. The world is colorful and friendly and people love to spend their time in the fantasy world.
The soundtrack matches the theme perfectly and is just as relaxing. However, I wish for more variety here, with the same soundtrack playing over and over in the background. However, it’s not really annoying because it’s so cute that you can hardly notice it at times.
Unfortunately, there is still a slight lack of performance. The game often takes a long time to load the entire environment, which results in annoying stuttering. However, one shouldn’t forget that Palia is still in beta and the developers will have to see for themselves how to deal with the incoming rush of players, which will likely make the stuttering worse. So far, the game usually settles down after 15-20 minutes and then runs smoothly.
Conclusion
Palia is a wonderfully relaxing game that borrows enough from Animal Crossing in terms of gameplay to come highly recommended to fans who have wanted an MMORPG of this type for a long time. If you’re more of an energetic person, you probably won’t like Palia so much. Although you go hunting regularly in Palia, there are no battles or opponents in the entire game.
In addition to the relaxed gameplay, the visuals are particularly convincing. Palia offers a wonderful world to explore with cute characters and colorful environment. The side missions also stand out positively, offering a nice change from the typical gameplay.
The only negative I’ve actually found is the sometimes long waiting times when building a house or creating special materials. There is also a high risk that it will quickly become dull and worn out. However, I’ve now been on the game for almost a week and at least so far I can’t speak to boredom.
Palia is and always will be Free2Play, while there are a few in-game purchase options, these are cosmetic options only. In addition, you can enjoy balea not only alone, but also with your friends. Mona Balea, in her present condition, gets 7/10 points.
- PC players can join the open beta now. All you have to do is sign up for Official Website And download the launcher there. Palia will also be released for the Nintendo Switch later this year.
