In 2021, after their seven-year contract expired, K-pop group GOT7 left JYP Entertainment. They assured the fans that they would not break up because the seven individual members JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Young Jae, Bam Bam and Yogyum pursued solo activities. A little over a year later, they not only got back together, but released a six-song EP written by the members.
The song “Nanana” was recorded by group leader Jay P
In K-Pop, members of the group have specific roles. The leader takes more responsibility and sets the tone for the rest of the group. The GOT7 leader went above and beyond the call of duty this year as he proceeded to retain the rights to the group’s name from JYP. He was successful and led the whole comeback effort with a new logo.
The group’s 12th EP, GOT7, features six songs co-written and produced by the members. Jay B wrote the theme song “NANANA”. If the song is colored, it will be light yellow. A happy, happy tune that celebrates love and closeness.
“NANANA” combines R&B and pop music to create a cool festive atmosphere. Just like GOT7, it’s flashy but cool. The song is not young, pop music is lively. The sound of “Nanana” has a papery maturity.
The music video showcases the seven members in an eccentric setting filled with vibrant colours, flowers and birds. They navigate the choreography with joy and ease, joking and smiling more than longtime loyal GOT7 fans have seen. GOT7 is happy to be back.
“GOT7” EP is a selection of GOT7 classic and futuristic sounds
GOT7’s self-titled EP gives listeners a sense of who’s outside of JYP. Without the label’s opinion, the seven members were able to orchestrate a selection of sound and liveliness with which they identify.
Youngjae wrote “Drive Me to the Moon,” a poppy groove that highlights GOT7’s vocals. Previously hired rappers BamBam and Jackson sing their vocals while Jay B rises in the chorus.
The younger member, Yugyeom, may have written the more mature track on GOT7. ‘Two’, eine R&B-Trennungsballade, enthält einen Refrain mit den Texten ‘Forget the two of us/ Let me erake you all night/ Nothin’ I do can get you off my mind/ I’m flyin solo I’m drinkin’ Every night.”
Jinyoung joined forces with Yugyeom to co-write “Don’t Care About Me,” a song that describes the group’s struggle and eventual triumph. It is an intense, moody and captivating song.
“TRUTH” Written by Jay B, the EP opens with a smooth R&B rhythm and an infectious pop melody. His third single from the titled EP completes the project. “Don’t Leave Me Alone” is the album’s most underrated track. It might also be for the better.
During the bridge’s communication and response department, every member has a chance to shine. Jackson’s top notes are particularly memorable. The words ask not to be left alone. After this release, GOT7 fans are unlikely to leave their favorite K-pop group alone.
GOT7 track list:
- “Reality”
- “take me to the moon”
- “Nanana”
- “two”
- “do not care about me”
- “Do not leave me alone”
GOT7 sets a new precedent for K-pop groups
K-pop labels are notorious for the careful scrutiny they put on their idols. If GOT7 leaves its brand, keeps its name, and achieves success on its own, it may set a new precedent for groups once their deals expire. In 2003, Shinhwa became the first group to leave their K-pop label, but they spent 12 years fighting legal battles over their name. The K-pop deity never got his name back, just like Cube Entertainment’s BEAST.
During the year they broke up, the GOT7 members released new music or starred in K-Dramas. Jackson Wang recently made history as the first Chinese-born artist to perform on the main stage at Coachella.
Born in California, Mark returned to the United States and released singles. While Youngjae, Jay B, and Yugyeom resided in South Korea and launched individual projects. Born in Thailand, BamBam has also released several EPs.
Jinyoung is the only member who hasn’t worked on new music. Instead, he became a respected K-drama actor, starring daily cells And Satan’s judge.
Only a year later, GOT7 managed to reunite, record a new EP, shoot a music video, produce photo shoots, and hold a two-day fan concert in Seoul. What makes the achievements even more impressive is that XP is very good. If this is the sound of GOT7’s future, then the future is bright.
