Actor Jonathan Majors was arraigned in New York on Sunday on multiple counts of assaulting and molesting a woman the day before. Majors is currently starring in films Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania And creed Third.

In a statement to NPR Tuesday, Majors’ defense attorney, Priya Choudhury, alleged that the woman retracted her claims in written statements and that Majors called 911 himself over concerns about her mental health.

In a statement to NPR Sunday, Chaudhry said Majors is “totally innocent” of the assault, strangulation and harassment charges for which he was arrested in New York City on Saturday. She added that the video and upcoming witness testimonies would clear him of any wrongdoing.

The New York City Police Department responded to a call Saturday morning regarding a domestic dispute between a 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. At the time, the woman told the police that she had been assaulted. As of Saturday evening, Majors is no longer in police custody and has been released without bail.

In a statement to NPR Saturday, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed: “Officers took the 33-year-old into custody without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries to the head and neck and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.”

Over the weekend, the Army pulled a marketing campaign featuring Majors; The announcements were made at the start of the NCAA March Madness college basketball tournament. In a statement Sunday to the Associated Press, the military’s marketing office said it “deeply concerned allegations surrounding his arrest.

Recently, the Majors have had a major publicity boost: On NPR, Sunday weekend edition Majors was interviewed by host Aisha Roscoe focusing on his “meteoric rise” as an actor. NPR posted an extended clip of that interview to YouTube and Pop culture happy hour.
