Faster clicks, better response times, programmable side buttons – Stiftung Warentest tested 15 gaming mice priced from 80 to 180 euros. Razer, Logitech, Alienware and Co. models compete. Ultimately, there are two compelling ones across the board.
In the practical test, five experienced gamers aged between 15 and 70 rated the suitability of mice in self-selected games, including in terms of reaction speed and handling. Three experts specifically tested the performance of the mouse sensor and the mobility of the mouse.
Control with just your thumb
All of the gaming mice in the test can send their position changes to the computer at least 1,000 times per second — what's called a polling rate. The test winner even managed 7,980 times.
In many shooter games, the speed at which mouse buttons reset is important – that is, how quickly they reappear after clicking. Mice from HyperX and Logitech reacted particularly quickly in testing.
For massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) like World of Warcraft, mice that have as many programmable side buttons as possible are often used. Razer's Naga V2 has twelve devices, which you can control blindly with your thumb with a little practice.
Lightweight mice are more comfortable
In addition to performance, testers also evaluated the ergonomics of the mice: “For example, a slightly angled mouse with a finger rest offers ergonomic advantages because it can support the natural position of the arm and hand. Important for gamers, because their hands are sometimes too long for the mouse,” says Florian. Osterman, test leader: “Light mice are more comfortable because if less weight has to be moved, the long-term load is less.”
