British Airways has canceled all flights between New York and the UK's main airport until 2025 – Travel

British Airways has canceled all flights between New York and the UK's main airport until 2025

British Airways has apologized to the affected passengers

Winter is approaching, and while many Brits might be using the time to travel somewhere tropical and sunnier, there's also a major holiday destination in town.

Yes, when the Christmas lights come on and the ice rinks come out, it often seems like everyone and their Instagram nanny is heading to New York.

A trip to the Big Apple is one of those great trips that have been in store for the ages, but for some people hoping to go this winter, the American dream may be over.

This is because British Airways has canceled all flights between New York and a major UK airport until next year.

Which UK airport is affected?

At least 103 flights are expected to be affected by the change as they are suspended from London Gatwick to John F Kennedy International Airport.

A British Airways spokesperson said: “We are disappointed to have had to make further changes to our schedule as we continue to experience delays in the delivery of engines and spare parts from Rolls-Royce – particularly in relation to Rolls-Royce.” Trent 1,000 engines are installed on our 787 aircraft.

“We have taken this action because we do not believe the issue will be resolved quickly, and we want to offer our customers the certainty they deserve regarding their travel plans. We have apologized to those affected and can offer the vast majority a same-day flight with British Airways or one of our partner airlines.

“We continue to work closely with Rolls-Royce to ensure that the company is aware of the impact of its issues on our schedule and our customers, and we seek assurances of a quick and reliable resolution.”

A Rolls-Royce spokesperson also said: “We continue to work with British Airways and all our customers to minimize the impact of limited availability of spare parts due to current supply chain constraints.

“Unfortunately, this is an issue that affects the entire aviation industry.”

While this may sound like pretty devastating news to anyone planning to travel to the US city, British Airways points out that the Gatwick flight is one of up to nine daily flights it operates from London to JFK while it operates the other eight from Heathrow.

In addition to the New York route being affected, British Airways has also reportedly been forced to postpone plans to relaunch its route between Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which was originally scheduled to resume on 12 November.

Now, this will likely be available again in April.
