John Oliver calls out 'F***boy' JD Vance

John Oliver was appalled by J.D. Vance's debate performance this week, and even more appalled by the media's reaction to him.

It was a topic that hit close to home — literally — for the comedian.

Tuesday's vice presidential bout between Vance and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz took place across the street from the studio where the HBO series is filmed. Last Week Tonight with John Olivertemporarily converting the room into an official “post-discussion spin room.” Oliver began his show Sunday by jokingly warning his audience that Donald Trump Jr. has inhabited their airspace.

“So, if anyone in this audience wakes up tomorrow feeling like you have a sore throat and you're a complete disappointment to your father, that's probably why.”

But Oliver once again reserved his harshest remarks for Vice President Trump Sr., ignoring the mainstream media's focus on how Vance and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz have remained so civilized despite the dire stakes of the November election.

More importantly, the fact that Vance won't acknowledge Trump's loss in 2020 is even more of a “damning no-answer” for Oliver than it was for Walls last week.

“The phrase 'I'm focused on the future' is one of the most common deviations found in store branding. No wonder Tim Walls broke the fourth wall there as much as he did inside.” Abbott ElementaryOliver said. Because “I'm focused on the future” is what you say when you want to change the subject. If not, just answer the question.

Oliver also addressed new findings in Special Counsel Jack Smith's 160-page summary, which a judge unsealed last week and contains stunning evidence of the crimes Trump allegedly committed in trying to subvert the 2020 election results. Oliver said the court document “reminds us once upon a time… Another for the ridiculous steps he took to avoid leaving office.” Among these, Trump allegedly told people at the White House that he knew he lost, but lied anyway, believing he would “fight like hell” even if he didn't lose.

“But it's very important if you lose. It's kind of the main thing that matters. That's the most troubling thing you could hear if you worked in the White House,” Oliver said.

Trump also muted and mocked attorney Sidney Powell during a phone call “when she was outlining her false claims of fraud,” Oliver said. “If you find out I lied so bad that Donald Trump muted the call to say this is crazy, you'll never see me again. I'll walk straight into the ocean.”

“None of this is theoretical,” Oliver continued. If he loses next month, there is every reason to believe Trump will object to the results again, and Vance has made clear he has no problem with that. This alone should be disqualifying.

“For all the talk this week about his debate civility, let's not forget: Deep down, he's the same massive lowdown — who spews right-wing hate with disturbing ease and continues to champion the big lie that the last election was stolen.” . It's all very bleak, which is why — to borrow a phrase I heard recently — I'm focusing on the future, specifically a future in which Trump will hopefully lose this damned election in four weeks.
