Kalmandi: In the ministry that planned to digitize education, no one was interested in technology

Although the name of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation suggests that it deals with technology and innovation, 20 years later, no specific person has been found to deal with technology and digitalization in education.

According to Deputy Education Minister Toulant Kelmendi, education has been digitized on paper. MEST also found a €5.8 million project for which I would pay the loan until 2032, but it was nowhere to be found.

“For 20 years, until March 2021, we have not found a single person working in the field of technology and innovation. There is no unit, no department, no office that deals with technology and digitalization in education at MESTi. Digitalization in education is a topic on which millions of euros have been spent. Digitalization has happened Education is on paper, and when we were there we saw that there was a project that cost 5.8 million euros and we paid off its loans until 2032 and we could not find it anywhere. Kelmandi said.

Kilemendi confirmed that this contract had been referred to the Special Prosecutor's Office. We have reported the matter to the Special Prosecutor's Office, which continues our work despite continued inactivity. As part of this, we established the Education Digitization Department, the Education System Department, as well as the Digital Content Crimes Department. He confirmed.

He also added that MEST has digitally licensed teachers and expanded broadband to 250 schools.

“We have digitized the teacher licensing process. Three teacher licenses have been digitized, and now every teacher can enter the licensing process digitally. We have expanded broadband internet to about 250 schools and aim to expand it to a total of 250 schools in all municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo by December. He added.
