background: Linux as a gaming alternative to Windows
Linux has seen a boom in recent years as well, but not only, when it comes to PC gaming. Continuous improvements and bug fixes, such as the DirectX DXVK 2.4.1 bridge or improved hardware support for Linux kernel 6.11 including a performance boost, make changing the operating system seem more attractive, at least in theory. Not least thanks to the efforts of many developers and teams who want to use Valve's always updated Proton interface to ensure a more enjoyable and easier operating system for users. Microsoft's Windows 10 and 11 operating systems have many practical advantages simply because of their distribution. Games and apps must work on Windows, as fans continue to rely on the well-known brand. The targeted Linux group, which obviously has nothing to do with developers like Rockstar Games, sometimes has a hard time and has to wait for support. In the case of the recently updated GTA 5, even with impeccable features like the official multiplayer part, which is no longer available due to the unsupported version of BattlEye for Linux users who have desktop computers or mobile devices like Steam Deck.
