Intel releases third update for 13th and 14th Gen CPUs that have been plagued by frequent crashes
Intel continues to investigate crash issues with 13th and 14th Gen Core processors, and has released two microcode updates to mitigate the crash issues so far. On September 25, 2024, Intel announced a third update and released microcode 0x12b for additional mitigation.

With PCs equipped with 13th and 14th Gen Core processors, we've received numerous complaints about “games crashing mid-stream” and “software not working properly,” and Intel is continuing to investigate to resolve these issues.
In June 2024, Intel released microcode “0x125” that mitigates “an abnormal increase in input voltage when the CPU temperature increases.” Furthermore, in July 2024, the company admitted that the crashing issue was due to its design, and in August 2024, it released microcode “0x129” that contained a fix that “limited voltage requests above 1.55 volts” and did just that.

Intel then continued its investigation and discovered a new issue: “Anomalous voltage spikes occur when the computer is idle or under light load.” We released microcode 0x12b to address this issue. Microcode updates are made via BIOS updates.
In order to investigate the “impact on performance due to the introduction of 0x12b”, Intel tested devices with the following conditions: “Core i9-14900K and DDR5 5200MT/s memory” and “Core i9-14900K and DDR5 5600MT/s memory.'' Running multiple games. As a result, they reported that the introduction of “0x12b” had no significant impact on performance.
The update Intel has released this time is targeting the desktop version of the processor. There are several reports online that “the crashes occur even on laptops equipped with 13th and 14th Gen Core processors,” but Intel stated in its update announcement that “13th and 14th Gen mobile processors and “future products such as Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake are not affected by this issue,” and confirms that the crash issue is unique to desktop processors.
Although Intel claims that the issue with 13th and 14th Gen CPUs does not occur on laptops, this has also been debunked – GIGAZINE
