After the interview was published, Chappelle's refusal to endorse anyone sparked controversy on social media, with some even speculating that she may be secretly planning to vote for Trump.
In a TikTok video, Chappelle made it clear she would not be voting for Trump as she reiterated her initial statements and urged people to understand the nuance of what she was saying.
Then Chappelle said, “If you come to my shows, if you read my full interviews, if you know anything about me and what I believe in, you know that this is not empty talk. This is not virtue signaling. My actions have always paved the way for my project.”
In addition to her passion for gay rights, Chappelle is also a prominent supporter of Palestine and has previously spoken out against the U.S. government's support for Israel.
“I chose some poems by Palestinian women,” she explained. “I was trying to do it as tastefully as I could because all I wanted to do was scream. I had to find something tasteful, direct and meaningful, and not have it talk about me and my feelings.”
