Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s daughter said her father once decapitated a dead whale and carried it on top of the family's minivan while it leaked foul-smelling juices for hours.
The strange story reappeared from A 2012 interview with Keck Kennedy after her father suspended his independent presidential campaign last week and endorsed Republican nominee Donald Trump.
“Keck's taste for extremism was fueled by her father's eccentric environmentalism,” Hudson Morgan Books in Town & Country“Attachment A: When she was six years old, news spread that a dead whale had washed up on Squaw Island in Hyannis Port. Bobby, who loved studying animal skulls and skeletons, ran to shore with a chainsaw, cut off the whale's head, and tied it with a bungee cord to the roof of the minivan the family was taking on the five-hour trip to Mount Kisco, New York.”
“Every time we accelerated on the highway, whale juice would come pouring out of the windows, and it was the smelliest thing on earth,” Keck Kennedy told the author. “We all had plastic bags over our heads with holes for mouths, and people on the highway would point fingers at us, but that was just our normal everyday life.”
The politician may be trying to win support for a potential position in the Trump administration if the GOP nominee wins, but the recently revived story is likely to raise some eyebrows among conservatives and others.
