Proton's Document Editor is a personal document creation service that lets you share your documents with others to collaborate in real time, leave comments, add images, and store your files securely. The service is end-to-end encrypted, including keystrokes and cursor movements.
Proton's document editor has been introduced as a feature within the Proton Drive cloud storage. The feature has already been rolled out to some users and will be available to all users in the coming days.
“Most companies that offer services collect personal information from users,” Bruton told other document editors, and that “with services like Google Docs, it can and will be used to train AI models that violate your privacy.” The editors don’t protect your data with end-to-end encryption by default, allowing third parties or governments to protect your data. “There’s a risk that they could try to access it.”
Proton Document Editor is presented as a tool that can eliminate these concerns. According to Proton, end-to-end encryption allows only the creator to view and share the document, and even the service provider, Proton, cannot access the content or metadata (such as file names). Also, because the servers are located in Switzerland, which is protected by strict privacy laws, it is considered more secure than services based in the United States, where legal protection of data is weaker.
