This year’s European MagicCon took place in Amsterdam from June 28-30. A highlight for many attendees is always the preview panel, where Wizards of the Coast shows off glimpses of upcoming sets from “Magic the Gathering.” The biggest surprise of the weekend wasn’t the first cards from the horror expansion “Duskmourn” nor the awesome trailer for “Bloomburrow.” Instead, the show opened with the reveal of “Foundations.”

Magic the Gathering: Foundations | This is how long you can play the deck in standard format
This is a standard legal set, which means it will be relevant to MtG Arena. And not just for a short time. After the formatting change, “Foundations” should be playable here until 2029! There has never been a nearly four-year lifecycle before, and it will likely change the format significantly.

Additionally, some of the cards that will be found in the set have already been revealed. In addition to the featured releases like “Llanowarelves,” “Judgment Day,” and “Omniscience,” there were two brand new cards to admire: “Nine-Lives Familiar” and “Anthem of Champions”:
This also illustrates the idea behind the development. The board states that the expansion is intended to serve as the foundation for a magic journey. About half of the cards will be old acquaintances, and the other half will consist of new and exciting spells. The effects should be kept as simple as possible – the Cat with Nine Lives is as intuitive as the anthem that strengthens your forces. Additionally, it was decided to modify the edge of the magic card, as with the artifacts – the new design was already known from some creatures from the world of Theros, for example. This should make it easier to know which cards are in your hand.
