In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave 1.5 stars for animal. He wrote: “To justify that it is a man’s world, animal It features two men who are as much physically disabled as they are mentally scarred. A person loses his sense of taste and smell, and cannot hear, after being hit by six bullets that pushed his heart to the brink of collapse. The other cannot speak. He communicates with the help of a brother who works as a sign language interpreter. When the two men face off in the climax – such clashes are usually in revenge epics of this type, staged on the runway of an airstrip. If you think that the physical shortcomings a warring couple has to deal with are meant to be seen as a metaphor for what men like them lack, dismiss that thought. Everything the hero does in order to ensure the achievement of what he wants is supported by an obnoxious justification. “What greater motive could there be,” the animal seemed to ask the audience, than a man’s desire to attract the attention of his distracted father?
