Even though I spent all my time in bed creating this material, I feel like other people aren’t reading it seriously… Maybe it’s because the font you’re using isn’t great. In order to make your material eye-catching, the type of font you use is a surprisingly important factor. Let’s introduce some apps and services that can help you choose this line.
For iPhone/iPad, “Phont” lets you try out more than 3,500 fonts
Many pre-installed fonts on smartphones and computers have designs optimized for use within on-screen interfaces. These fonts don’t necessarily look good on slides or printed materials, and can be difficult to use in a way that impacts the viewer. However, there are many unique fonts in the world suitable for such purposes.
An app that can help you with this is “Phont”. This app is compatible with iPhone and iPad, and contains over 3,500 fonts, allowing you to check their glyph shapes. In addition to European fonts, we also have a wide range of Japanese fonts, Korean fonts, and fonts that support Arabic and Thai characters.
You can preview what any character string will look like when displayed in this font, so you can actually enter text from the document and check what it will look like. If you like something, you can add it to your favorites so you can check it out later. We recommend that you carefully look at the fonts on your iPhone screen as you go, and note which fonts you will use in the actual materials.
If you want to download fonts, you need to register for a fee starting at 100 yen per month. Downloaded fonts can be used within apps like Keynote, so consider purchasing them if you plan to create material directly on your iPad.
“Google Fonts” is where you can find free fonts, even for Android users
The materials you actually want to use the fonts will likely have been created on a computer. To do this, you need to install the fonts on your computer. Fonts found using the “Phont” application mentioned above cannot be installed directly on a computer (Windows), so we recommend using a web service called “Google Fonts”.
Google Fonts, like Phont, is a service that lets you find and download fonts in a variety of graphic formats, and includes more than 1,500 fonts. Although not as numerous as Phont, Google Fonts often contain the same fonts as Phont. Moreover, all fonts are free to download and can be used for commercial purposes. Since it can be accessed through a web browser, it is also an advantage that it can be used from an Android smartphone.
