Zurich Visitors can’t overlook Accelleron’s flagship product in the courtyard of the company’s headquarters, not far from Zurich. However, Accelleron is relaxed about the approaching end of petrol and diesel engines. Dirk Bergmann, a member of the board and chief technology officer, is convinced that combustion engines, especially on ships and power plants, will not be replaced for the time being.
In the future, they will likely be powered by hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, or synthetic diesel fuel generated from green electricity. “We certainly won’t get a general solution in the foreseeable future, we’ll see the entire spectrum,” Bergman says.
