Dion announced in December that she has an incurable neurological condition that causes stiffness and muscle spasms. She said at the time that the medical disorder made it difficult for her to walk and sing.
She was due to resume the rest of her European tour, which would have included 42 shows in cities such as Amsterdam, Paris, London and Berlin, in August through April 2024. Dion had previously performed 52 concerts before the tour was halted in March 2020 due to the pandemic.
“We have every hope that one day Celine will soon be able to come to all these cities in Europe to perform for her incredible audiences, but that time simply isn’t right now,” said a press release published by Dion.
Stiff person syndrome experts say the symptoms usually don’t affect a person’s lifespan and can be managed with treatment, but the disorder, which is thought to be autoimmune, can be distressing. In some cases, it can affect the muscles used for speech and singing.
The Grammy Award-winning superstar, known for “My Heart Will Go On” and other ’90s hits, recently took part in filming and recording new songs for “Love Again,” a rom-com starring Priyanka Chopra and Sam Heughan.
Dion ended her message to fans: “It’s not fair that you keep postponing shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to get back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up.. .And I can’t wait to see you again!”
