Passkey is now available for Google Accounts! Sign in easier and more secure |
On March 3 (local time), Google announced a new authentication standard that enables secure and easy ID authentication for online services without using a password defined by the FIDO Alliance and W3C in Google Accounts on all major platforms. We announce that we are beginning to support passwordless authentication “passkeys” that correspond to certain “FIDO authentication”.
Last year, the company announced that it would introduce passkeys as a simpler, more secure alternative to passwords, along with the FIDO Alliance, Apple, and Microsoft. He announced that all products will be available sequentially from the latter half of November 2022.
This time, before World Password Day every May 4th, passkeys have been entered into Google accounts on all major platforms, not just Android and Chrome, along with passwords, two-factor authentication (2SV), etc. that. It is presented as an additional option when you sign in and can be found in your Google Account under Account Management → Security → Passkey ( http://g.co/passkeys ) can be set.
Passkeys are a new way to sign into apps and websites, and they’re easier and more secure than passwords, so you don’t have to rely on your pet’s name, date of birth, or the infamous “password123.” Alternatively, you can sign in using the same method as unlocking a smartphone(s) with a passkey (using fingerprint authentication, face authentication, or screen lock PIN).
Also, unlike passwords, passkeys resist online attacks such as phishing, so they’re more secure than one-time use SMS codes. Over the past year, Google has shared an update on offering passkeys for Android and Chrome, and services like Docusign, Kayak, PayPal, Shopify, and Yahoo! Japan has already provided the passkeys. around.
Now available on all major platforms, Passkey is a free, optional option for anyone with a Google Account who wants to try out the passwordless login experience. Meanwhile, passwords and 2-step verification are still available. For Google Workspace accounts, administrators will soon have the option to enable end-user passkeys at login.
