Just hours before season 47 finale, Pete Davidson Go to Instagram to confirm his upcoming exit from Saturday Night Live.
Along with a video of him embracing Jerrod Carmichael, Davidson posted an emotional statement (from an account SNL And King of Staten Island writer Dave Cyrus) On his eight years performing on the Late Night Diagram series:
send jerod [the video] For me last night and it made me very emotional in the best way. In the video, I had just come back from doing my first update and drawing. It’s crazy to think that today I’m going to do something last. When I got the show I was 20 and had no idea what I was doing. I still don’t but especially at the time. I wasn’t really a sketch artist, I was just a pause. I knew I could never keep up with Keenan Thompson or Kate McKinnon or go toe-to-toe, so I was too apprehensive to know what I could bring or do for such a respected historical show and stage. I figured since I’ve stood up, I’ll just try to stand up and personalize the weekend update myself and I’m so glad I did. I’ve shared a lot with this audience and it’s literally bigger before your very eyes. We’ve been together through good times and bad, the happiest and darkest of times. I owe it to Lorne Michaels and everyone in SNL my life. I am so grateful I wouldn’t be here without them. I appreciate you guys always supporting my back and holding on to me even when that wasn’t the public opinion. Thank you for always believing in me and sticking by my side even when it seemed comical. Thank you for teaching me the values of life, how to grow and giving me memories that will last a lifetime. SNL It is my home. I am so happy and sad about tonight’s show. For many reasons that I cannot explain. I can’t wait to come back next year with Mulani’s music number. Young Resident Pete Davidson

One of the youngest cast members in the show’s history (he was only 20 years old when he debuted), he is best known for his appearances on “Weekend Update” and digital shorts. As his star rose, though, his SNL manifestations were less frequent; He was absent from several episodes this season. (His departure was first reported by diverse.)
