On May 4, Ubisoft reported on the development status of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Edition. Accordingly, the development studio was changed to Ubisoft Montréal. On the other hand, the status of indefinite postponement does not seem to have changed.
“Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time” is a remake of the adventure game “Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time” released in 2003 (PS2 domestic version is 2004). The film is set in 9th century Persia, and the adventures of the main character, the Prince, with the daughter of the Maharaja, Vara. In addition to the series’ unique parkour action, this action features a time manipulation system that uses the sands of time and the power of the dagger. The new version uses the Anvil engine that was also used in the “Assassin’s Creed” series.
This work was announced in September 2020. It was initially scheduled for release in January 2021, was postponed to March of the same year, and then postponed again. A new release date has not been set, and it has been postponed indefinitely. At the time of the first delay, Ubisoft suggested the impact of the novel coronavirus infection, saying the reason for the delay was to “improve the development system under unusual circumstances.”
On the other hand, he said the decision was made after receiving a large number of opinions from fans during the second postponement period. It seems that the trailer for this work, revealed at the time of the announcement, had to be reproduced because many voices dissatisfaction with the graphic aspect (Related Articles). Since then, only the fact of continued development has been reported.
It was announced that Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, located in India, were jointly responsible for developing this business, but this time it has been changed to a format led by Ubisoft Montréal. This studio in Montreal is also the studio that worked on the trilogy from the original “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” to “Prince of Persia: Kinshinokokoro” and “Prince of Persia: Two Souls”.
In the future, Ubisoft Montréal will continue to develop with the outputs of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai in order to offer the best gaming experience as a remake of the masterpiece. In addition, it is necessary to reset which part of the work you should focus on, which will take time. It doesn’t say when it will be released, it just says it will be released when it’s ready.
“Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake” is in development for PC/PS4/Xbox One. Due to release delays, there may be changes in these supported platforms. I want to wait for the follow-up report.
