Decathlon, with its design and manufacturing teams, launches its first production “eco-molded” helmets with Roctool technology
Just over a year after the helmet prototype was released to evaluate Roctool technology, the industrial process Decathlon Head Protection confirms the technology’s selection of the first helmet models into production as of the end of 2022.
The prototype, produced at the beginning of 2021, made it possible to verify that with the rapid heating technology patented by Roctool, it is possible to produce parts much thinner than conventional ones, thereby reducing the percentage of plastic used. mechanical properties. In fact, the helmet’s molded outer layer offers an astounding 45% reduction in the proportion of plastics used traditionally. This savings in plastics makes it possible to achieve a 14% gain in kg CO2-eq on the overall impact of the urban model chosen for this first study.
“The prototyping phase confirmed our expectations in terms of part quality and material savings. We are keen to use technology in production to contribute to the group’s efforts to reduce CO2 per part produced.”
