Beemsterboer was walking about three blocks from his Chicago home in March 2021 when he saw an old Mobil gas station being rebuilt like 7-Eleven, he told NPR by phone Tuesday afternoon.
“So when they were like, setup, and they didn’t have the pumps active and the store was still under construction. They signed up, and they put it up for only $7.11. And I think it was kind of funny,” Beamsterborough said.
