BlackBerry is busy selling its secure Android version and putting it on other smartphones. The company confirms that they are doing this. This secure version of Android is called BlackBerry Secure, and BlackBerry will be responsible for the security and timely updates.

BlackBerry still exists, but it is no longer how we knew the company. BlackBerry now only focuses on software, after announcing last year to stop making smartphones. But how could it be that several BlackBerry smartphones have since been released?

This is because BlackBerry has given a number of companies, including TCL, permission to use their brand name. TCL made some smartphones under the name of BlackBerry, but BlackBerry was not responsible for it. In this way, the BlackBerry DTEK 50, DTEK 60 and the KEYone are presented in spring.

The original Canadian BlackBerry is only committed to making Android safe. This was also shown on the net-mentioned smartphones: these were kept up-to-date, and on the phones software called DTEK was present. This alerted the user to how it could make his phone safer. This was done by setting a lock code, preventing the device from returning to factory settings, and showing which apps were trusted.

BlackBerry is now planning to sell this software under the name BlackBerry Secure to other manufacturers. BlackBerry is more extensive than DTEK in that it’s a complete Android version. BlackBerry will take care of the updates and make security as high as manufacturers choose to use BlackBerry Secure. BlackBerry does not say what’s all that safe with BlackBerry Secure, but at least they have enough experience with DTEK.

It is still unclear which manufacturers BlackBerry is in, and what time BlackBerry Secure will come true. It is obvious that BlackBerry focuses primarily on smaller manufacturers who themselves do not have the means to keep Android up-to-date and safe. But who knows, your phone will soon be on BlackBerry Secure!

“We have already started talking to a couple of medical manufacturers. John Chen [BlackBerry CEO] had also talked about TVs – there is an amazing amount of products that run Android and since we are able to make a very secure Android, we think there are a lot of opportunities. We have a very specific plan and we are working to that plan,” said BlackBerry Senior Vice President, General Manager, Mobility Solutions, Alex Thurber.
